Photography through COVID-19

These last few months have been crazy for everyone in all different walks of life and photography has been no different. What this time has taught us is to slow down, get creative and dream up new ways to still capture these moments that matter.

The Alberta Government has given the green light to photographers to still continue to run our businesses given that we follow the guidelines provided:

  • Immediate families only - no larger extended family sessions at this time

  • Photographer to maintain social distancing of 2 meters from the families that I am shooting

  • I must wear a mask and sanitize both my hands consistently and my equipment from previous shoot

  • Gatherings must occur in a space that allows for mandated physical distancing (at least 2 metres between attendees).

  • Exclude people who have any of the following symptoms from attendance: cough, fever, shortness of breath, runny nose or sore throat (even if symptoms appear to be mild or resemble a cold)

  • Stagger the time of arrivals and departures from gatherings

  • Increase access to handwashing stations or alcohol-based hand sanitizer

  • Increase the frequency of cleaning of surfaces that are touched often

What does this mean for my shoot?

We will still get your family those beautiful photos you have been dreaming about, but as with many things in life right now, the process to get there may look a little different.

For those who have shot with me before you know that I am a very hands on style photographer, whether its moving that piece of hair out of your face, helping you up from a sitting position, to tickling your kids and rolling on the ground with them, thats what I have always done and is the person that I am. So I am going to have to change my style in regards of touch. But what I know I will be able to still do is interact with your family through my voice, prompts and jokes etc. I will just be doing it from a distance and I promise to make it still fun.

I generally shoot with my 35 mm which is why I love being up close and personal but on my end I will be playing around with different lenses to create the same experience but just from 6 feet away.

If we are shooting outdoors this will be no problem as the weather is getting better and we have lots of room.

If you are considering a newborn session at your home we can get creative with some outdoor shots, porch photos, through windows and if we do a few shots inside I will wear a mask and fully sanitize etc. I will not be in any contact with your baby. So things like swaddling or any sort of positioning will need to be done by parents.

For brand shoots, we will need to discuss location, if its safe for us to work within these guidelines, ensuring other businesses are following them etc. This will be addressed on a case by case basis.

For clients who are hoping to borrow from my client closet or any props, unfortunately this portion of my services will not be available at this time.

I am really excited to get back to shooting again but with both your families and my safety to come first. Things are changing daily with this situation and will do my best to keep you informed and updated on the situation.

Turn around times on photos may be extended as with this situation my editing time has been cut down significantly with my three kids at home. We can discuss timelines when we are planning your specific shoot.

Thank you so much for choosing me to be your photographer and supporting my business and family through these challenging times!
