Thank you so much for being a part of my October family sessions. I wanted to provide you with a bit of a style guide for your shoot. These are all just suggestions to help you with planning your family’s outfits and you can take or leave anything I have suggested below. For what to wear:

I have a few suggestions on how to make your styling easier for you and your family.

1. Mom First

One of my goals when I am shooting is to make sure mama is feeling good about herself. Find something that you love to wear first and then plan your family’s wardrobe around what you are wearing. Your babes will look cute in anything right?

2. Choosing the right color pallet

Even though our Fall has been a bit crazy with weather I am still going to be looking for a location that shows off some of the warm Fall colors. I would choose colors that pop instead of blend in. You can choose base clothes to be neutral but its nice to have a pop of color whether its a scarf, or a texture of some sort in the mix. It doesn’t have to be dressy either. If you’re a mama that loves a good pair of ripped jeans and a pretty top please go that route as well. Just think simple is better. No big logos and try to keep with colors that make you feel good. Feel free to have a little fun with your clothing too by bringing in some patterns and textures as well. I think its always nice to have a least one person in denim.

3. Good places to shop:
Mom: Zara, Old Navy, Free People, Forever 21, Adorn, H&M

Dad: J Crew, Banana Republic, H&M

Kids: Zara, Baby Gap, H&M

4. Keep it simple

Try to choose pieces that are easy. You don’t want to be worrying about straps falling down or bows that don’t stay in hair. I would rather spend my time documenting you then fixing your clothes the whole time! Simple, relaxed and comfortable. Your kids will thank you!

5. Power through it

We all know that the weather in Calgary sucks and when you have small kids it makes it even harder. This session is fairly quick and it will be over before you know it. So don’t worry about bundling up your kids for the actual photos. We will have their jackets and blankets ready to warm them up but powering through a few photos in your nice clothes will be worth it!

6. Have Fun

Honestly I know photos with kids can be stressful. But at the end of the day kids will be kids and it’s my job to just capture your moments with them. Let go of all the Pinterest photos in your mind and just embrace yourself with your kids naturally. There may be tears, boogers and meltdowns but that’s just life and it’s all actually pretty awesome!! Also if you want please bring a blanket for everyone to sit on and get cozy and if you feel the need to bribe your kiddos, I suggest bringing something like a little fruit snack so that there is no mess or crumbs etc!

Thanks so much and I look forward to capture some amazing moments with your family!
